Resources

One of Healthy Haywood's goals is to connect people and provide resources.  Click on the subheadings under this menu for the resource topics you're looking for.  If you know of a link that would be a helpful resource to the community, contact the coordinator today!

Additionally, you can dial 2-1-1.  It's a free, easy-to-remember phone number connecting callers with health and human services in their community.

When you dial 2-1-1, you will talk to a trained resource specialist who has access to comprehensive database listings of nearly all health and human services that exist in North Carolina. This includes but is not limited to: rent and utility assistance, food, emergency shelters, where to get employment help, medical and mental health assistance, and help with transportation.

You can also get information on affordable child care, information about caring for an aging relative, or help recovering from a disaster.

Information and referral is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the year. Information can be provided in over 90 different languages.

If you wish to have your agency listed in 2-1-1, contact Yvonne Gold or Odile Ullah at 452-2370.  If your agency is already listed and there is a change in information, please notify Yvonne or Odile.

Healthy Tips

Breaking the monotony of fitness activities can keep you fresh and motivated to continue the pursuit -- which never ends.

The brain and the body have to work together in order for this pursuit to continue week after week, year after year.  We likely have some preferences or tendencies as to when or where to exercise; and we might prefer to exercise alone or with someone.

When motivation wanes -- the brain is up to no-good! -- try altering these when, where with whom variables.  Research tells us that exercise improves our brain-power; so keep moving and know that the mind and body are on the road to progress.
